Brie has been the opening receptionist starting at 5 AM every weekday morning at the El Dorado Hills Sports Club ever since I’ve been a member which I think is about three years. Brie works two jobs and is trying to go to school. Recently her car died and she was having trouble getting to and from all her activities. Couple of the members learned about this predicament and wanted to see what could be done to help her out. It turns out Debbie in our group of 5 AMers owns Cameron Park Automotive where she also sells client’s used cars from her a lot. One such car was lovingly named Bertha, a purple sedan on which the owners had not been able to secure an acceptable offer. The price was right and the members of the “5 AM club” organized and started raising funds to purchase this car for Brie. Yesterday morning at 7 AM there was a gathering in the parking lot around Bertha complete with a big purple bow and the 5 AMers presented Brie with the keys to Bertha complete with a smog and current registration! Brie was absolutely stunned, shocked and thrilled; just a basket of emotions that warmed all of our hearts! I took my two grandchildren, Jonah and Skyler who had spent the night so I could take them to school yesterday over to meet Bree and to witness the true Reason for the Season! They were moved by the experience and I was honored to be able to participate in such an appreciated act of giving! Merry Christmas!

Two of our grand children, Maggy and Jonah, have come of age! (The age where they can take their hunter safety course and get a junior hunting license.)
Because we wanted them to learn in the “right” way, we sent them to the California Waterfowl’s Hunter Safety Camp which is held at the Grizzly Ranch just south of Suisun City the middle of July. Now armed with their certificates Sunday, Alan and I took them both to get those precious green slips of plastic – their hunting licenses. First Maggy at the Walmart in Elk Grove and then Jonah the Walmart in Orangevale. Their first hunt will be the Dove Opener up at the Cowan Ranch in the Plymouth area. Rob Cowan, Maggy’s uncle calls it a California-National Holiday! Opening of Dove!
As many of you know, after 30 years at the Sierra Oaks Office lovingly known as Drake Circle, both buildings were cited; the big one for ADA violations and the Annex was condemned for electrical forcing us to move. The new office was quite lovely and very modern but it lacked the charm and it lacked the ability to have a private office. I’ve had a private office for over 20 might be over 25 years and I found it was impossible for me to work under the later of the two. So I simply started working from home.
A couple of weeks ago I stopped by the fair Oaks office located on Sunrise Boulevard to make a photocopy and learned that one of their agents had just retired for medical reasons and there was a private office that had become available. I initiated a call to the manager of that office Clay Sigg and had a delightful conversation with him during which we agreed to meet for lunch the next day and discuss it in more detail. After a two hour meeting and an in-depth discussion we sealed the deal and I accepted his very kind and generous offer to move to the Fair Oaks Office of Coldwell Banker and take up residence in my new private office!
There was a major side benefitting the move: I cut my office commute in half and still have the central type of location as I did at Drake; if not better! My new office address is 5034 Sunrise Blvd., Fair Oaks. Best way to reach me is on my cell at 916-284-7133 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org. Life is good!!!
This blog should actually read”following in grandmas and grandpas footsteps.” Today I finished registering our granddaughter Maggy Laining and our grandson Jonah Laining in the California Waterfowl’s hunter safety camp this July 10-14. There they will camp out shoot shotguns and learn all sorts of wonderful things about gun safety and living in the outdoors. This is a gift from Alan and me to these two gorgeous grandchildren! Skyler will be joining then in a couple of years!
It’s just before 1:00 am and I’m up!!! Waking up, not still up! Breakfast burritos are in the oven – wild pulled pork burritos. We’re meeting Casey Stafford at 4:00 am to go wild boar hunting! And yes, I’m a little crazy because I think this is sort of cool! I’ll post photos from the field later this morning!
We took Ryan sturgeon fishing with Jay Lopes as his birthday present. Ryan’s goal: TO CATCH A RIVER MONSTER!
